About e-GMAT prep course

The e-GMAT GMAT prep course has been on the prep course scene for almost a decade now. It out in 2011 by providing only Sentence Correction (SC) tutorials. Later on, it covered the Verbal and Quant sections of the GMAT. e-GMAT has helped students boost their GMAT score by providing online video lessons, practice questions, and analytics.

With growing competition around it, is e-GMAT still a prep course worth purchasing? What sets it apart from other prep courses?

In this e-GMAT GMAT prep course review, we will look at its overall effectiveness, value for money, and ease of use. We will also look into other students’ opinions on the prep course.

Ready? Let’s begin.

What Makes This Prep Course Unique?

Scholaranium

e-GMAT provides ‘Scholaranium’, storage of thousands of practice questions that also includes retired official GMAT questions. What I like about Scholaranium is that it categorizes the practice questions not just by category, but by difficulty level: Easy, Medium, and Hard.

After answering a set of questions on a particular topic, a performance report will be displayed. This is a good way to assess your progress as you answer practice questions.

Flexible options

Unlike most GMAT prep courses, you can take the e-GMAT course that covers only a particular section on the GMAT. You can purchase a complete course, or a single course on Verbal or Quant. This is ideal for students who are looking for specific and budget-friendly GMAT courses.

Curriculum Overview & Effectiveness

e-GMAT is a purely online prep course. It offers video lessons, thousands of practice questions, a personalized study planner, performance analytics, and student support. Before you proceed to the GMAT course, you will take a diagnostic test, in which a GMAT expert will assess your existing knowledge and skills on the topics covered by the test.

A personalized study planner will be provided once the diagnostic test is done. It will be set up in a way that it covers the topics that you had trouble answering on the diagnostic test.

Once your schedule is set, you’ll be able to start watching video lessons. With e-GMAT, you’ll have access to 90+ hours of video lessons on Verbal and 70+ hours of video lessons on Quant. This is a good number of video instructions, compared to other online prep courses.

After each video lesson, quizzes are provided, so you can check your comprehension and progress. To check your progress and understanding of the lessons, e-GMAT provides huge storage of practice questions called the Scholaranium.

If you want a more extensive GMAT prep, I suggest you take the GMAT Online package. It includes 10 mock tests. 5 of which are Sigma-X, a special type of practice test created by e-GMAT that provides feedback and analytics.

Even if you didn’t purchase the GMAT Online package, you still get 1 Sigma-X mock test for free.

What I and other e-GMAT GMAT tutoring reviews find impressive about e-GMAT are the Sentence Correction (SC) lessons. It has always been the prep course’s expertise. Although helpful, e-GMAT’s instruction quality on the Quant sections is not as good as the Verbal sections.

Overall, however, this GMAT prep course is effective. Its analytics surely helped me assess my strengths and weaknesses and later on became an important part of my GMAT preparation.

The price of e-GMAT GMAT test prep courses can be considered average. They’re not very expensive, and they aren’t the cheapest either.

I personally think there are cheaper options out there that will give you the same or even better quality of instruction and online materials. However, the e-GMAT GMAT review course provides impressive analytics and study planners that are really helpful in preparing you for the test, something that other prep courses do not have.

Platform’s Ease of Use

The e-GMAT GMAT online course is user-friendly. There’s nothing really fancy about its interface. e-GMAT prep classes, video lessons, and quizzes are just ideal for efficient learning.

Check out the images below to get a solid grasp of what the video lessons and practice quizzes look like.

Above is a screenshot of e-GMAT’s video tutorial on Verb-ed Phrases. You can see that the video is really optimized for studying. It has a white background and dark-colored text, so you can easily read the words on it. Plus, important keywords are highlighted.

Another thing I and other e-GMAT GMAT test prep reviews find great about e-GMAT’s videos is that they show the agenda for the lessons. On the right part of the screen, the agenda for this particular lesson is flashed.

Here’s where each button will direct you to:

  1. Pre-Quiz – You can assess your prior knowledge on the topic being discussed

  2. Concept – You can thoroughly review and study the concept being discussed in the video. You will be provided with examples for further explanation.
  3.  Summary – You can summarize the content of the video lesson.
  4. Post-Quiz – You can measure your understanding of the video lesson and the topic covered.

Now, let’s look at how easy it is to use the practice quizzes.

The image above is a screenshot of a practice quiz on Inequalities. What I like about the e-GMAT GMAT practice test is its Launch Whiteboard feature. Once clicked, it will lead you to an empty whiteboard where you can calculate your answers.

Using the whiteboard is a breeze. You can use a pen to write, and you can also use typed text. Plus, you can change the color of the pen for easier solving.

Is e-GMAT a Reputable Online GMAT Prep Course? (Not a Scam)

Final Verdict & Recommendation

In this e-GMAT GMAT prep course review, I give it a rating of  3.75 out of 5.

This course can be effective for students who do not need 1-on-1 sessions with an instructor. I find the Sentence Correction modules the best thing about e-GMAT. That being said, I still think that the Quant lessons are lacking and not as effective as the Verbal ones.

When it comes to the price, e-GMAT is in the middle range. I believe there are available options out there that are cheaper yet provide great quality instruction and materials. If you’re a fan of a test prep that provides personalization on the study plan and analytics, then e-GMAT is ideal for you.
